Powering Up Cleaner Road Freight
With over half of EU freight traveling by road, the shift to zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles is crucial. The updated Weights and Dimensions Directive aims to:
Enable heavier electric or hydrogen trucks, compensating for battery or fuel cell weight
Reward aerodynamic designs with extra payload capacity — boosting both efficiency and sustainability
Support energy-saving tech, like advanced cabs and trailer systems, to reduce fuel use and emissions
Improve driver safety and comfort, making sustainability good for people and business

The new policy framework will simplify how cleaner, longer, and heavier vehicles move across Europe:
European Modular Systems (EMS) will be allowed to operate internationally among consenting Member States
